Degree Navigator is updated to reflect approved undergraduate curriculum and program requirements. The Degree Navigator programming process begins after curriculum changes have completed the appropriate school and university approval process.
Curriculum Approval Comes First
Degree Navigator does not replace or manage the curriculum approval process. Departments should continue to follow the procedures established by their school and the appropriate university curriculum office for new programs, revised requirements, course changes, and other curriculum actions.
Once the approved change is provided to Degree Navigator staff through those established processes, Degree Navigator programming can begin during the appropriate update window.
Programming Workflow
- Approved curriculum is received through the appropriate school or university process.
- Degree Navigator staff review the approved requirements and determine the programming needed.
- The change is programmed in DN Test.
- The academic department reviews the programmed requirements in DN Test.
- Corrections identified during departmental review are made in Test as needed.
- After validation, the approved programming is moved to Degree Navigator Production during the scheduled update period.
- A final review is completed to confirm that the Production version reflects the approved requirements.
Department Responsibilities
- Ensure that curriculum changes have completed the required approval process before Degree Navigator programming begins.
- Provide clarification when approved curriculum language is ambiguous or cannot be translated directly into Degree Navigator rules.
- Review programmed changes in DN Test within the requested review period.
- Confirm that requirements, course lists, credit totals, options, effective terms, and other program details are correct.
- Report programming corrections before the change is finalized in Production whenever possible.
Degree Navigator Staff Responsibilities
- Translate approved curriculum requirements into Degree Navigator programming.
- Program and test changes in DN Test.
- Communicate with departments when clarification is needed.
- Apply corrections identified during departmental review.
- Move validated programming to Production during the established update period.
- Maintain appropriate records of significant programming changes.
Corrections Versus New Curriculum
A correction addresses a situation where Degree Navigator does not accurately reflect an already approved requirement. A curriculum change creates or revises the approved requirement itself. Corrections may be reviewed outside a regular programming window when necessary, while new curriculum changes should follow the established approval process and update schedule.
